Truth and Journalism

In my opinion, there is truth in journalism. But very rarely is there ever full, honest to goodness truth. It always seems that somehow and someway the truth gets twisted and turned into either something larger or smaller than what it really is. For example, if a journalist is trying to make a big, explicit event more low key they won't go into all the detail. But if a journalist wants to make a big deal out of something they will elaborate and exaggerate. This is where the whole truth thing become more of a grey area rather than either black or white.
Another aspect that can affect whether a story is true or not is how much information the journalist is given. One journalist may be given only one half of the story while another journalist is given the other half of the story. This is like our class experiment that we did last week. Only certain groups got certain parts of the story so their article was still correct, but it was missing some other details that were also truthful.
With these two examples, it is obvious to see that truth and journalism are hard to go hand in hand with each other. There will always be ways to get around the truth. And this then causes problems in society and with who the article is about.

What's it all about?

What is journalism? Some people may ask this question and all people will answer it very differently. Journalism to me is a passion; it is a way to be expressive. To others however, journalism may simply be the act of reporting something that has taken place. It is a way to let the world know what is happening or what has already happened. Journalism opens the eyes of people and gives them the opportunity to think about ideas with a new and different outlook. Journalism allows people to see not only what is happening on the surface, but also what is going on behind the scenes. With journalism, journalists are able to dig deeper into a story than what just the average person can do. Journalists are people who live to write and read. They are the people that spread the word and express themselves through their writing. Journalists will say what is on their mind and not try to hide anything. They are brave and daring. There is not a day that goes by that a journalist’s mind is not wondering around and curious about everything around them. Journalists have the power and desire to get the inside scoop of the events happening in the world, they then get to share this with the world and their readers.
