Truth and Journalism

In my opinion, there is truth in journalism. But very rarely is there ever full, honest to goodness truth. It always seems that somehow and someway the truth gets twisted and turned into either something larger or smaller than what it really is. For example, if a journalist is trying to make a big, explicit event more low key they won't go into all the detail. But if a journalist wants to make a big deal out of something they will elaborate and exaggerate. This is where the whole truth thing become more of a grey area rather than either black or white.
Another aspect that can affect whether a story is true or not is how much information the journalist is given. One journalist may be given only one half of the story while another journalist is given the other half of the story. This is like our class experiment that we did last week. Only certain groups got certain parts of the story so their article was still correct, but it was missing some other details that were also truthful.
With these two examples, it is obvious to see that truth and journalism are hard to go hand in hand with each other. There will always be ways to get around the truth. And this then causes problems in society and with who the article is about.
